The Task Pane is a docked area within the PowerPoint 2016 interface that provides more options than dialog boxes. Also, unlike most dialog boxes which cover the Slide Area, you can view both the active slide(s) and the Task Pane at the same time. The Task Pane, therefore, provides a more streamlined experience.

For more than a decade, the online source of pictures for PowerPoint has been the pictures available online at Office.com. Now this option is no longer available in PowerPoint. Instead, you can use the Online Pictures option. This feature is very helpful as you are not limited to just the pictures available on your system. You get other picture sources, some of which also include Creative Commons pictures. And all this happens within PowerPoint.

To learn more, choose your version of PowerPoint. If we do not have a tutorial for your version of PowerPoint, explore the version closest to the one you use.

Although it’s not too common to have bright and vivid picture backgrounds for your slides, it is not unheard of. You will often see slides that are saturated with bright, sparkling colors that make anything placed on the slide almost impossible to stand apart. So, do you really want your slide background “to not be in the background?” If not, then the techniques explained on this page will help.

When you insert a new shape on a slide in PowerPoint, by default it is filled with a solid color and an outline (or something else depending on the Theme your presentation is based on). These default shape attributes can be changed very easily in PowerPoint. But do remember that these changes are only limited to the presentation you are working on. If the presentation is not saved, you’ll lose the changes.

Default slide background options are limited to solid or gradient fills, and yes, you can even apply a picture as a slide background. However, picture backgrounds do pose some issues, especially since a busy picture may hamper the visibility of other slide objects such as text or charts. Fortunately, PowerPoint provides options to reduce the intensity of a picture background so that any foreground elements such as text can stand apart.
